Who Am I?

My name is James Michael McNelis, but you can call me Jim. I am a self-taught web designer, SEO, and webmaster. I have been practicing these trades for about a year now, full time, from my home.
My company, Dito, provides Small Business Web Solutions to those in need. I decided to work with small businesses because of my limited experience and resources in the industry. The type and size of websites I build for these businesses are generally small and do not require a great deal of functionality. I have spent most of my time learning web design and SEO and practicing on my company website and various other websites I own. In time, I will be ready to take on more.
To date, Dito has published about 10 small business websites and blogs. I am currently working on 4 more sites. I would say work has been coming to me at a comfortable rate. I came this far with almost to nothing to show my prospective clients other than my own site, so a strong portfolio will only enhance my ability to capture business.
I design sites using HTML and CSS. I favor hand coding the sites over WYSIWYG editing. I have been developing my own design process over the last year. It’s still in my head and I haven’t put it into words yet, but it’s getting there…
I just started advertising my SEO services. I am still reluctant to take on SEO work, even though I know now I am quite capable. I still do not know the best sales approach for SEO. I need to develop a pitch. My own site ranks pretty well considering it’s age, for multiple keywords. ‘Dito’ is a big keyword for me. My blog is currently on the 1st page for that keyword, with my company website on the 2nd page. I’m really aiming for #1 with this term. I cannot guess how long that will be. I do know I can help just about any small business rank better in the search engines. I really enjoy SEO and I see my future in SEO.
I am 30 years young! I live in Manassas, Virginia, but only until I save enough money to move to the country and build a log cabin. I also want to travel across Europe and the rest of the world at no particular pace. I figure my line of work could lend well to the lifestyles I desire, as long as I make it so. I believe that life is what you make of it.
I wish I was a better writer. Pretty simple. I have a unique way of writing, that I enjoy, but I often envy those who have a way with words…if I could only write that way… Please bear with me. If you find my writing tolerable, thanks.
This blog is for me. Over the last year my online efforts have been solely devoted to Dito. I need a place where I can exist without my company’s name attached. Yes, I have spoken a lot about Dito already. I am not seeking anonymity from it, only separation. I can write Shit, Fuck, Damn, Bitch, Bastard, Fuck Face and a million other words here that I would try and stay away from on Dito’s blog. I can also write about anything, and not worry about it being on topic.
